Another year ends and what a year it has been! The events industry is a huge industry and there can be no doubt that it will survive whatever the recession can throw at it. There will be pain and undoubtedly a lot of businesses will suffer, some terminally. Time to pull together and help each other. So, Christmas Greetings to all in the events industry and sincere wishes for a prosperous New Year!
On a happier note, Endless Wire are pleased to announce the launch of a new site - http://www.britishgastropubs.co.uk/. The site lists pubs throughout the UK serving tip-top pub cuisine as well as menus and gastropub recipes. Well worth a browse for those travelling to unfamiliar areas looking for a delicious meal at their destination.

Media Interest In The Effect Of The Credit Crunch On Corporate Christmas Parties Intensifies
As the credit crunch continues to whip up a daily media frenzy it was probably not surprising to receive a call this morning from BBC Radio One enquiring about the effect that the 'economic downturn' is having on corporate Christmas parties. The feedback that we are receiving from our subscribers and visitors alike is that, whilst there is a general tailoring back on expenditure, it only seems to be the banks that are really cutting back and severely downsizing their festive entertainment spend. Indeed it is not uncommon to hear stories of Christmas party organisers actually seeing their bookings rise by sometimes up to 50% over last year. Maybe a case of companies treating their staff whilst they can. Next year's corporate festive event expenditure will be the one where we will really see the effect of the crunch. One thing is clear, the events industry is not going to suddenly collapse as companies and individuals will always need to have events - if only to cheer themselves up amongst the doom and gloom - and providing we all raise our game by delivering value for money, monitor our costs and work on reasonable rather excessive profit margins the fit will survive.

BBC Stop Tom Archer From Listing With Partyoffers
We regret to announce that Tom Archer of the popular radio series The Archers has been prevented from advertising his mobile catering business, Gourmet Grills, in Partyoffers.co.uk. A letter that we have today received from the BBC's Litigation Department has requested that the Ambridge porcine entrepreneur's listing be removed. We have adhered to their request and wish Mr Archer's Gourmet Grill every success for the future.

Olympics Causes Shortage Of Fireworks For UK Events Industry
Chatting today to one of our subscribers who provides pyrotechnic displays for events. It's a funny old world, to be sure. It transpires that the Chinese authorities clamped down on the movement of fireworks for three months during the build up to the Olympics for fear of any adverse publicity towards the nation in the event that there were any explosive accidents during the shipping process. Although this restriction has now been removed it has lead to many pyrotechnic display companies running short of fireworks for their events. Not good news when one considers that Guy Fawkes night is only six weeks away! The person that your correspondent spoke to said that this situation demonstrates the importance of pyrotechnix display organisers building a strong relationship with a Chinese middleman as the guy in question had been tipped off by his Chinese contact back in January and had managed to order sufficient stock to avoid being caught out by the restriction.

Champagne flows in The City.
The Square Meal Events & Venues Show at Old Billingsgate must have been the only place in The City where the bubbly was flowing last week. Congratulations to Square Meal for yet another first class show! It was good to meet up with Late Night London with whom it is hoped that their venues will shortly be listed in privatebarhire.co.uk
